Sara McDonald - January 2012, Boise

For this show at Flying M each canvas is stitched together samples of material intended for fine men's suit.  A custom tailored suit from these fine cloths would start at $5,000. I started painting homeless people on the canvases and have evolved from there exploring an array of ideas gathered around the idea of "value."  How is it that one suit made from this material is worth at least 4 of my cars?

Sara graduated from BSU with a BFA and an emphasis in sculpture and have been showing quite regularly ever since. I spent March through August of this year toiling over an artist in residence at the Renewal Underground space and am very glad to have had such an opportunity.  When the season permits I work for Peaceful Belly, a local organic farm, and enjoy having a job that matters so immensely to people, health and mother nature. I am the proud parent of a beehive and have learned so much about nature's balancing act and how delicate it can be. I hope to never quit learning and constantly push my own envelope of intrigue and curiosity, both in life and in my art.
